Job Description

The primary responsibility of the General Farm Worker is to assist with day-to-day farm operations and livestock management. Practical farming skills, teamwork, and adherence to research protocols are essential in this position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • General livestock management involving sheep, deer, and cattle

  • Active participation in lambing operations, including fully recorded lambing events

  • Field servicing and support for agricultural research trials

  • Coordinating with science teams to ensure trial objectives are met

  • Monitoring animal health and assisting with stock handling and recording

  • Carrying out farm maintenance tasks such as fencing repairs, pasture topping, and weed spraying

  • Maintaining farm equipment and resources in good working condition

  • Following good farming practices and strict safety standards

This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy both hands-on farm work and research-based farming environments.


Skills and Experience Required

Candidates must demonstrate practical farming experience along with a responsible and professional attitude.

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ farming experience

  • Knowledge of animal health, stock handling, and farm recording systems

  • Experience with fully recorded lambing or a willingness to learn

  • Experience with the TruTest system (advantage)

  • Valid full driver’s licence

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work independently when required

  • High level of safety awareness and responsible workplace behaviour
